Children move about using different modes of independent transportation including bicycles, skateboards, and snowboards. This collection of fun videos shows children being reminded in some laugh-out-loud ways to remember their safety equipment. There's even a video about the dangers of 'smartphone' walking. The videos can be used in school classrooms, afterschool programs, or at home.

Inside UL's laboratories, lithium-ion batteries are pushed to the extreme. When it comes to evaluating the safety limits of mobile or portable devices - like hoverboards - engineers must understand how batteries will operate within the device, even under extreme conditions. In these videos, students can watch the abusive overcharge test and projectile test, which were filmed at the UL lab in Northbrook, Illinois. These videos supplement lessons on safety science and engineering, engineering and design, and energy. The videos can also be used to introduce UL Xplorlabs Module 1: Portable Electrical Power. See the News and Events page for articles about UL battery safety testing and safety standards created for lithium-ion batteries.

In this investigation, students make observations about how thermal energy is transferred and how transferred heat starts fires. Students compare the surface to mass ratio of a block of wood and a toothpick, then compare how easily they ignite. Students then make observations about how different materials ignite and burn. The classroom investigation can be done with materials list provided, or by using the video to make the observations for classrooms that are not allowed to use an open flame.
