The rise of the internet and interconnected intelligent technologies poses safety and security threats that are critically important for governments, businesses, and for the over 3.5 billion people who are online every day. Weaknesses in security are no longer minor problems and setbacks, but rather are massive impediments to the safety of information and data, the consequences of which can devastate the world in which we live. Robust education programs to enable internet users to navigate cybersecurity risks in this new and complex environment are important and necessary.
Why
Cybersecurity?
The growing scale of cybercrime is directly proportional to the growing scale of internet use and the proliferation of internet-connected intelligent devices. Despite being enabled by technology, cybercrime cannot be resolved through technological fixes alone. Technology users, young and old, must be empowered with knowledge of security weaknesses and measures required to prevent attackers from causing harm. Users must have the knowledge to identify attacks, and must equip themselves with the knowledge of preventable measures to terminate a threat before it has a chance to spread. UL Education and Outreach understands the scale of this evolving global safety hazard, and by collaborating with UL’s Cybersecurity teams, develops educational tools enabling smarter choices, allowing people to keep pace with this ever-changing form of technology.
